Rivian Wall Charger Installation in Saratoga, CA | Drummond Electric

The situation
The homeowner was charging their Rivian from a standard 120V outlet, which adds only a couple of miles of range per hour. That isn’t enough to recharge a large-battery EV overnight. They wanted the Rivian Wall Charger installed, and the best spot for it was an exterior stucco wall exposed to sun and weather.

What we did

• Confirmed the home’s 200A panel could support a 60A charger circuit

• Installed a dedicated 60A, 240V circuit, with the Rivian Wall Charger set to its full 48A output

• Ran the circuit from the panel through the garage in EMT conduit

• Mounted the charger inside a weatherproof outdoor enclosure on the stucco wall, with a built-in cable hook so the cable stays off the ground

• Brought the wiring in through the bottom of the enclosure with weatherproof fittings

Result
At 48A, the Rivian Wall Charger adds up to about 25 miles of range per hour, compared with a couple of miles per hour on a wall outlet, so the car is full by morning. The charger is protected from the weather and looks like a permanent part of the house.
