The situation
The homeowners were moving in and wanted a garage door opener installed, but there was no outlet on the garage ceiling where the opener motor mounts. They needed power there so the opener could go in right away.

What we did

• Ran a new dedicated 20A circuit from the panel to the opener location

• Installed a ceiling-mounted outlet for the opener

• Provided GFCI protection, which current code requires for all garage outlets, including ceiling outlets for openers

• Secured the box and cable to the framing

• Tested the circuit and confirmed the opener’s power

Result
The opener was ready to install the same day, on its own dedicated, GFCI-protected circuit. It doesn’t share power with anything else in the garage, and there’s no extension cord hanging from the ceiling.
